The opening night of the pantomime is over - and I think it went pretty well!
The truth is, there were actually quite a few mistakes, mostly to do with lines!
People forgot their cues, people changed their lines slightly and confused people *coughmecough*... At one point, there was a scene with me (Aladdin), Bisha Bisha (Aladdin's brother, seen as the "Buttons" of the panto) and Twankey (Aladdin's mother; the crossdresser of the panto) and we confused each other with the order of the lines, resulting in us completely improvising the scene on the spot! However, it all came together in the end, and it appeared that no one noticied...then again, 80% of the audience were Japanese speakers, and even those who understood a bit of English weren't able to follow the face-paced vocabulary of British panto, haha Still, songs went well, dances were in place and nothing went dramaticaly wrong. I, personally, was pleased with my own performance, although I completely mucked up a scene by saying my lines too early - luckily, I heard our Director whispering, "STOP!" at the side of the stage and did, then improvised in some extra lines when it was the scene where I actually needed to say those lines The audience was small...perhaps about 25 to 30 people in total? But they were great. They laughed at the right places, applauded, and took part where necessary with the "Yes!" and "No!" of Panto, though we have the Native English people to thank for that.
2 of my dear friends from my small town drove up to see me (as the Musical was held in another town, quite far from where I live) which was incredibly sweet of them and I was so grateful! They said they enjoyed it too, which is always an awesome thing.
Wow, as big-headed as it might seem of me, I love performing.
It's not that I want fame or people gushing over me (cause when I'm stage I can't see many of the audience because of the lights anyway), although I admit I love hearing the sound of applause, but...just the thrill of standing on a stage, with a bright spotlight in my eye, and music blaring out behind me, then hearing my own voice echo back to me...I love it. If I wasn't realistic and followed my dreams, I'd probably have gone to theatre school or set my heart on a band as a career.
But, to be able to even do it as a hobby or side project is good enough for me.
