And no, I don't really mean the type with a "goo" on the end.
I had my second gig in terms of my experience with a band and with my current band last weekend. We played the same 3 songs that we did at the outdoor festival event last time and an extra song too, by request of our drummer and to the dismay of myself as the vocalist.
The song he had chosen was 'Standing Sex' by X Japan. I couldn't help but raise my eyebrow when he said it. Not because I dislike X Japan, no, I think they're quite spectacular, but for my style of singing it doesn't quite fit, and of all songs, 'Standing Sex'?! I'd have been much happier singing something like 'Rusty Nail'. There are hardly any vocals in the song, and even the parts that have vocals have a crappy melody that repeats itself and (what feels like) a 10 minute guitar solo in the middle. However, I was open to trying out new genres while we still do covers of songs and thought it might help in my experience of my performance on stage, rather than my actual singing. I was dreading it by the time the day of the gig drew nearer and mucked up the lyrics because I hadn't really bothered to learn them (the Engrish lyrics didn't make much sense and had little rhyme in it, which made it difficult for me to memorise anyway).
