:(
In my left eye. This has been my situation (looking badass in an eyepatch) for the past few days;
rawr.
The fact that my eyes are tiny anyway, and that my right eye has to squint due to closing my left makes me look even more lard monster hardcore.
It appears that I have conjunctivitis (pink eye). Or, it is what I believe I have, as the doctor I went to see never exactly said what I had (seems very typically Japanese of them, but whatever).
I noticed my eye was horribly bloodshot on Saturday night, and it was bulging by Sunday morning. Still, as I was performing at a gig that day (read on for more info on that), I chose vanity over practicality and stuffed my contact lenses in, whacked on the eye make-up and used my fringe to hide the red mess.
I was given some eye drops, but on Tuesday morning both eyes were swollen so I called in sick at work. My right eye is now pink-eye-free, but I resumed to eye-patching it out when I returned to work Wednesday morning.
It's a lot better than it was, but it will still take a while to heal, I think...ugh.
It has made me bless the wonders of having two eyes to see.

On the other hand, I'm in a band <3
I can't remember if I mentioned this in this Blog (doubtful, due to my irregular updates), but about a month ago or more, I was invited to join a band as a vocalist - yes, my dream has come true at last after 24 years!! The guy who asked me (I'll refer to as T), is actually a friend of my American friend K, and is the manager of a bar that she often ur, graces her presence at. I joined her for one of her "graceful presences", and as there was karaoke available I naturally grabbed the microphone and sang away. He says he was "blown away" by my voice (very sweet of him to say, but hard for me to accept!) and asked me there and then if I'd join his band as there was an event coming up in the small local town that we were in.
T's band is originally a "hardcore" band. Though loving music but being musically illiterate, I'm still not 100% sure what genre that is. I looked online and found something called "hardcore punk" and a list of examples of bands who are placed under that genre and found some bands I listen to, but his band sounds much heavier than those. It's not quite metal, but it has the same heavy guitar riffs with the vocalist growling and yelling over it. I raised my eyebrows at this and told T I would fail miserably at trying to "sing" over anything like that, but he assured me that with myself, they would do something completely different.
To put it simply we would work as 2 different bands. His original "hardcore" band is called 'King Size', with him as the guitarist, another guitarist S, the drummer E, the bassist Sh and the vocalist Y, known as "King" (mostldy due to the fact that he is, in physical form, "king size-d"). Aside all the complications of who joined when etc, it would be easier to say that 'King Size' is actually the vocalist King's band, and it was with the other band members that I would hop in as the vocalist as another completely different band, and King would not take part.
As the event was coming up pretty soon, we did covers of songs. Our setlist was;
1. Are you gonna be my girl? by JET (the band, aside from King, had covered the song before and therefore knew it somewhat, and as I also knew it we used it)
2. Fukushuu by Tokyo Jihen (by my request)
3. Try by Nelly Furtado (by my request)
I chose the other 2 songs as they said I could do whatever I wanted to do, and therefore I had the easy part having already loving and knowing the songs off by heart, whereas the other members had to remember everything from scratch just by listening to the songs. And my god, they did it straight away.
As I don't really play an instrument I'm in no real position to judge their skills, but I can tell they are talented. They did so well at learning everything in such a short amount of time, and I was honoured to have been able to play with them.
Band rehearsal pics.
We normally practised at the drummer E's house, but 2 weeks before the event, we rented out a tiny hall with a small stage.

The event itself was held outside. It was only small and not many people came, but it was perfect for my first ever gig performing with a band.
The worst part was probably the "MC" (my talking) in between the songs. Most of the bands I like tend not to say anything or very little between songs (i.e. Ringo Shiina), so I was hoping to not bother, but due to the other members having to set up and re-tune/re-charge for the next song it was left to me to hold things together. I can't quite remember what I said but it was a load of gobble-di-goop, and even T had to jump in to help me as I froze on the spot, mouth numb and brain dead. Guess as the vocalist I'm going to have to learn how to say clever things in public. Eheh.
Moo went back to England a few days ago. Before she did, she sent me a parcel with a few goodies.
She also sent me a pair of jammies which are now too small for my brother.
This weekend will consist of a "feeling-sorry-for-myself" pamper session, as I'll be hitting the hairdressers and getting my toenails re-done tomorrow (as it's my 'Birthday month', I get a discount. Yay excellence in Japanese customer service!)
Though there is a Gothic-lolita/Anime/Cosplay event which a bartender at my favourite bar told me about on Saturday night, and I'm quite tempted to go...I could always wear a black eye-patch for my eye and make it part of my look.
Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.
I haven't had pink eye before (thankfully) but I have had an infection of sorts in one eye that was SO painful. UGH, glad you're alright now, tho!
ReplyDeleteAHHHH I'm so excited for you! Being a singer! I know it has been a while since I've heard you sing, but I always remember that you can REALLY sing well. I love your voice~~ Congratulations, MIO! ^^
Aw that's so sweet of you! Thank you! xoxo
